WHEN was the HOLY SPIRIT Given?

 

JESUS said:

John 14:16 

King James Version

16 And I will pray the Father, 

and he shall give you another Comforter, 

that he may abide with you for ever;

When was the Holy Spirit given to believers?

Scripture very clearly states the following:

The living water was to be given when Jesus would be glorified.

John 7:37-39 (KJV)

37 In the last day, 

that great day of the feast, 

Jesus stood and cried, saying, 

If any man thirst, 

let him come unto me, 

and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, 

as the scripture hath said, 

out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, 

which they that believe on him should receive: 

for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; 

because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

It was only when Jesus left, that the Comforter could come unto believers.

John 16:7 (KJV)

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; 

It is expedient for you that I go away: 

for if I go not away, 

the Comforter will not come unto you; 

but if I depart, 

I will send him unto you.

The Holy Spirit had to come for the following reasons:

John 16:8-15 (KJV)

8 And when he is come, 

he will reprove* the world of sin, 

and of righteousness, 

and of judgment:

9 Of sin, 

because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, 

because I go to my Father, 

and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, 

because the prince of this world is judged.

12 I have yet many things to say unto you, 

but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, 

the Spirit of truth, 

is come, 

he will guide you into all truth: 

for he shall not speak of himself; 

but whatsoever he shall hear, 

that shall he speak: 

and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: 

for he shall receive of mine, 

and shall shew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: 

therefore said I, 

that he shall take of mine, 

and shall shew it unto you.

*Reprove means to admonish, censure, or correct.

The HOLY SPIRIT has Many NAMES

 

"God is a Spirit"

John 4:24

24 God is a Spirit: 

and they that worship him 

must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The THIRD Person in the TRIUNE GOD is the HOLY SPIRIT.

Discover His power, and importance through these verses:

"The spirit of God", "breath of the Almighty"

4 The spirit of God hath made me, 

and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

"Holy Ghost", "God", "Spirit of the Lord"

The PURPOSE of the HOLY SPIRIT

 

Why did JESUS leave us with the HOLY SPIRIT?

What is the Spirit's purpose?

The HOLY SPIRIT was sent for the following reasons:

To give life.

2 Corinthians 3:6

King James Version

6 Who also hath made us able ministers 

of the new testament; 

not of the letter, but of the spirit: 

for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

To raise the dead.

Romans 8:11

King James Version

11 But if the Spirit of him 

that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, 

he that raised up Christ from the dead 

shall also quicken your mortal bodies 

by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

To comfort us.

John 14:16-17 

King James Version

On Being ENDUED with POWER from on HIGH

 

JESUS said:

Luke 24:49 

King James Version

49 And, behold, 

I send the promise of my Father upon you: 

but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, 

until ye be endued with power from on high.

This is essential believer's tool kit.

Of waiting to be "endued with power from on high".

By ourselves, we might fail, and fumble.

But "endued with power from on high", we cannot possibly fail, or fumble.

For the SPIRIT of GOD is in us.

Here's another example from JESUS, in SCRIPTURE, of waiting to be "endued with power from on high":

Matthew 10:16-20 (KJV)

16 Behold, 

I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: 

be ye therefore wise as serpents, 

and harmless as doves.

17 But beware of men: 

for they will deliver you up to the councils, 

and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, 

for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, 

take no thought how or what ye shall speak: 

for it shall be given you in that same hour 

what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, 

but the Spirit of your Father 

which speaketh in you.

We must wait for instructions from the HOLY SPIRIT, who will tell us what to do, what to say, how to be, where to go -- anything that would protect us from the snare of the devil.

All our thoughts, words, and deeds -- as TRUE believers of CHRIST -- must glorify GOD.

We must not trust the world, nor our minds.

But we must be ever-trusting of JESUS.

Pay attention to the PROMISE of JESUS:

Luke 21:17-19 (KJV)

17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.

18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

Faith and patience.

Believers of JESUS must have tons of those, for this unseen battle we have on earth.

RESPECT for the HOLY SPIRIT

 

JESUS said:

Matthew 12:31-32 

King James Version

31 Wherefore I say unto you, 

All manner of sin and blasphemy 

shall be forgiven unto men: 

but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost 

shall not be forgiven unto men.

32 And whosoever speaketh a word 

against the Son of man, 

it shall be forgiven him: 

but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, 

it shall not be forgiven him, 

neither in this world, 

neither in the world to come.

Why did JESUS say that?

That was a loaded statement from the LORD.

It can only mean the HOLY SPIRIT is of GREAT importance.

But why is the Holy Spirit so important?

What is the Holy Spirit?

Or who is the Holy Spirit?

That is the reason for this blog.

It will be ALL things HOLY SPIRIT.

So we may honor what the LORD JESUS commanded us.

To recognize, respect, and revere the HOLY SPIRIT.
